Video Production

There are many elements that go into the creation of video content. I know what it takes to bring projects to life, be that in the form of building a strong team around you, or tackling a run-and-gun shoot as a one-man-band. Listed are services that fall under the one-man-band umbrella.

A 2011 graduate of the University of Southern California’s School of Cinematic Arts, Alastair Fairbanks has had the honor of studying under some of the most respected professionals in Hollywood. In that time and since then, he pursued many interests but continued his commitment to finding stories worth telling and telling them in a unique way.

Concept Development

Everything has a beginning. What is the message you want to convey and to whom is it directed? Even if your company has no experience with video, this shouldn’t stop you from exploring all the possibilities a great looking and effective video has to offer. Drawing upon years of experience, I’ll help you build a solid foundation for your project by developing and fine tuning the idea, making sure your video is as spot-on as it can be.

Scripting

Be it documentary or narrative, actors performing or voice over, any video production is made simpler by following a solid script. Not only does the video production team know what to shoot for, but the customer can sign off on what they’re going to get. Everyone is on the same page.

Direction / Production

Making sure that all the pieces come together at the right time and then making sure they fit is key. With experience directing and producing narrative shorts, documentaries, commercials, and content videos, your needs are covered. Making sure the right tone is struck with the right emotional structure makes our videos stand out from the rest.

Cinematography

Every project is different and poses different challenges. The question of equipment is always a contentious one. I firmly believe that the skill behind the camera outweighs the merits of the camera (within reason). There is no single camera that’s perfect for any situation; it takes the knowledge and experience of a cinematographer to choose that camera and the rest of the gear appropriately. Having worked with a plethora of cameras, from GoPros to DSLRs, from Sony’s FS series to Panaflex 35mm film cameras, it’s not a question of what camera can be used, but more a question of which camera is right for your project.

In actuality, the key to amazing cinematography usually lies in great lighting. Having shot in studios and locations, large and small, day and night, I have experience with choosing the right equipment to make your video come to life.

Editing

Making sure a project hits all the right beats and comes in at length all come together in the editing room. Having edited over 100 projects, there is plenty of experience going into each cut, fade or wipe. I cut my teeth on Final Cut and Avid platforms, but do all my editing on Adobe’s Premiere Pro these days.

Sound Recording / Design

I’m equipped with professional on-location and studio sound recording equipment, which will guarantee your project sounds great from start to finish.

Essential Motion Graphics

In this day and age, many videos require some form of motion graphics because simple titles just don’t cut it anymore. I have a solid understanding of Adobe After Effects and have produced titles and graphics for projects around the world.

Aerial Photography / Cinematography

Sometimes a video needs that extra punch of awesomeness and on many occasions aerial shots infuse yet another layer of professionalism into your video.
